Southwest Telehealth Resource Center’s region states among those highlighted for examples of best telehealth practices and strategies in 2024 CMS State Medicaid & CHIP Telehealth Toolkit
The February 2024 Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) State Medicaid & CHIP Telehealth Toolkit provides guidance and best practices that states can reference as they work to “…improve access to telehealth for services covered under Medicaid and CHIP [Children's Health Insurance Program], as required by the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA), 2022, Division A, Title I, Section 11002(a). In accordance with the BSCA, this toolkit provides information for states regarding: telehealth flexibilities under Medicaid and CHIP
- billing best practices
- strategies for telehealth in value-based care
- best practices from states during the COVID-19 PHE
- strategies to promote the delivery of accessible care via telehealth
- strategies to promote culturally competent care via telehealth
- strategies for communications, training, and resources for providers and beneficiaries
- strategies for using telehealth in schools
- information about telehealth platforms
- and evaluation strategies to understand how telehealth affects quality, outcomes, and cost.”
Twenty-five states, including Southwest Telehealth Resource Center’s (SWTRC) region states, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico were noted in the toolkit for a variety of telehealth best practices and strategies.
Arizona telehealth best practices and strategies included:
