Urge CMS to Address Virtual-Only Provider Location Reporting Policy
Please join us in a letter requesting that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) ensure that telehealth practitioners working from a home-based location do not need to report their private residence to the federal government for purposes of enrollment or billing.
Thanks to recently updated guidance, CMS permanently allows Medicare-enrolled practitioners to report and bill using their enrolled physical practice location, even when offering telehealth services from another location such as their home. However, this guidance does not include practitioners without a physical practice location; this will lead to increased privacy concerns and administrative burden on providers and health systems. To prevent these challenges from impacting care delivery, we request that CMS continue this important policy and consider location reporting flexibilities for fully virtual practitioners.
This letter also requests that CMS work with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to align reporting requirements for medical practitioners who report a practice location while prescribing a controlled substance.
